Cynthia Dunbar - SBOE District 10

BIOGRAPHY

Cynthia Dunbar is the Pro-Active Conservative Republican

Cynthia DunbarCynthia Dunbar is pro-family and cares about the education system in Texas. She has been an outspoken activist for the conservative cause for over 27 years. She is a public speaker who is frequently asked to speak at events and on radio discussing constitutional issues pertaining to parental rights, the sanctity of life, and limited government.

Cynthia is a 1990 graduate of Regent University School of Law where she graduated with honors. She was the founding editor of the Regent University Law Review. Additionally, she received three separate American Jurisprudence Awards, including two for Real Property, all of which she has used and will continue to use in her efforts to advocate property tax relief.

As an attorney, Cynthia Dunbar has devoted much of her practice to the area of appellate law. Her 17 years of experience make her abundantly qualified at reviewing and analyzing statutory and constitutional law. It is this experience Cynthia will bring to the State Board of Education in an effort to clarify its authority. Such authority is needed for the SBOE to grant the Text Book Review Committee a meaningful process instead of it simply being a rubber stamp for publishing companies.

Throughout her years of practice, Dunbar has cultivated a sincere interest and love for the charter documents that served to frame our nation. Cynthia's review of such documents from the Mayflower Compact to our Constitution and Bill of Rights has caused her to be a constitutional purist who does not believe in judicial legislating. Again, it is this position that Dunbar brings to the State Board of Education to encourage strict adherence to its statutory and constitutional authority.

Cynthia's knowledge and appreciation for our founding principles has prompted her to begin writing early American history curriculum. She believes all Americans should have a solid grasp of who we are as a nation and is concerned with how much of our rich heritage is missing from current textbooks. She is convinced that a solid grasp of our past is the best compass to direct us to a brighter future.

Cynthia served for three years as Director of Governmental Affairs for Fort Bend County, Precinct 3 where she helped to draft and support legislation of benefit to the citizens of Fort Bend County as well as the entire state of Texas, including reduction of property taxes and protection of private property rights from eminent domain. This experience and respect Cynthia Dunbar brings to the State Board of Education to strengthen its working relationship with the State Legislature.

Dunbar has two children and is very active in her community including having served as Awanas Leader, Boy Scout Den Mother, School home-room mother, Board Member of Spirit of Freedom Republican Women's Club, active in the West Fort Bend Republican Women's Club, Fort Bend Republican Women's Club as well as a Volunteer for the Fort Bend Boys Choir, Faith Lutheran Shoot for the Stars Gala, and the American Cancer Society Gala. She has been associated with or helped numerous conservative organizations including American Center for Law and Justice, American Family Association, Christian Legal Society, Christian Coalition, Concerned Women for America, Crisis Pregnancy Center, Eagle Forum, Home School Legal Defense Association, National Right to Life, Rutherford Institute, Texas Right to Life, A Baby's Prayer Foundation and the Source for Women. Cynthia and her family currently attend River Pointe Church in Richmond, Texas.
